The History of Club Penguin
Even though I wasn’t a beta tester penguin or saw Pengiun Chat 3, I have found some really cool pictures of it all, thanks to: http://hamanino.wordpress.com/penguin-chat-3-club-penguin-beta-test-stuff/. I have used their post for information, but haven’t copied it exactly.
Penguin Chat – the first “Club Penguin”
Before Club Penguin, there was something called “Penguin Chat”. The latest one was “Penguin Chat 3″, and it was the closest version to Club Penguin as we know it now. Although I never saw Penguin Chat 3, there are heaps of pictures on the internet showing what it looked like, including some below, that help you to see what it was like. Although you can’t play Penguin Chat 3 anymore, there is still something called ”Penguin Chat”, which I have just had a quick look at, and it is… BORING! I’ve heard that this wasn’t even the real Penguin Chat, anyway, but it’s probably pretty similar. But if you reeeeally want to see it, boring as it is, click here.
Penguin Chat rooms
Here are a few pictures from Penguin Chat – as you can see, it was, in a way, a white, boring world, which doesn’t look very interesting. Thankfully, now, Club Penguin has colourful rooms and you can dress up your penguin (i.e. not simply dark blue like all these ones!!).
This was, believe it or not, an igloo from Penguin Chat! It reminds me of the snow globe igloo design!!
Have a look at the letters!! He he, as you can see, Penguin Chat was a little less “strict” when it came to chatting and names!
SnowCannon’s pictures. In Penguin Chat, you could be a ninja, so that’s where the rumours of Club Penguin’s “ninjas” began.
Beta Testing – Club Penguin
So, where does Club Penguin come into all that? Well, right here! Of course, Club Penguin started with beta testing – some of the pictures of rooms have stayed the same, while others are quite different what they are now!
This picture is of the original nightclub. The band was there permanently, there were disco balls on the roof, and the colours of the dance floor were different. And, hey, where’s the green puffle?!
This is the Beta Testing party. It was created so that server capacity could be tested, so it was Club Penguin’s first ever party! Do you see rsnail?
This is… yep, you guess it – the Boiler Room! Dull, dark and lonely!
Wow, cool! The original Town! Check out the chat bar – hehe, cool eh? But boy, look at the town’s busyness now, compared to the two lonely penguins in there!
Beta Testing Penguins!!
Beta Testers are now thought of rare penguins, not only because they are the lucky owners of a pink and yellow Beta Testing Party party hat, but also because they have been on Club Penguin for soooo long! You can tell if penguins are beta testers by either their CaSe SeNsItIvE names or the number of letters in their names – now, you can only have 4-12 letters, whereas betas could have 3, or even numbers up to 16! Have a look at the pictures!
Yet ANOTHER picture of the town at the Beta Testing Party – I just wanted to show you that this was where the famous pink and yellow party hats were! If you look closely, you’ll see rsnail at the left saying, “Billybob is in the forts!”. I don’t know if this is true, but if it is – moderators actually came on back then…

I got this picture off a site to show you that moderators were obviously on Club Penguin more regularly back during Beta Testing – circled are Happy77 and rsnail! By the way, a place called rocketsnail.com was where Penguin Chat was, and that’s where rsnail got his name!
Early Club Penguin
I don’t know much about “early Club Penguin” as such – after Beta testers, people don’t reallly write posts about the next little while. So, I am going to tell you about my over days of Club Penguin, and all of the changes that happened since I started!
- Hydro-Hopper was Ballistic Biscuit. They had a vote for the new name, and Hydro-Hopper was chosen!
- Many of the servers that are around now, weren’t back when I joined. I don’t know every single server that there was back in early Club Penguin, but since I joined, Australian servers, such as Brumby, Down Under, Beanie etc weren’t around.
- Tour Guides were created during my time of Club Penguin. I can’t remember whether I was around to see Secret Agents being made, but tour guides are definitely one of Club Penguin’s more recent “creations”. And the tour guide booth used to be at the Plaza, where the road to the Forest/Cove now is.
- Lime green is the newest Club Penguin colour – it was chosen in a vote over lavender. Obviously, it wasn’t there when I started!
- Games such as Thin Ice, Astro Barrier, Aqua Grabber, DJ3K, Jet Pack and Cart Surfer (just to name a few) weren’t around when I started.
- The lighthouse was there, but you couldn’t go inside. By the way, that stripy red and white top that I wear is from the lighthouse opening! Also, it was a little while before the stage at the lighthouse was created, too!
- The wigs weren’t around, and the Sports Catalogue was the same as the Gift Shop Clothing Catalogue. Recently Club Penguin did a “makeover” for the Sports Shop to make it different to the Gift Shop.
- When there were parties, you actually got new items!! (Wow!) Now, you can see that many of the items that come out at parties are repeated, which is a real shame.
- The Cove and forest were made not that long ago, really… they weren’t there in early Club Penguin. We got to find a treasure map and discover the path to the Cove.
- An obvious one is that chatting was waaaay better. You could use numbers, fullstops, some symbols like talking marks, and I think “:”. Yes, it was much easier!
- The Stage, wasn’t around until maybe a year or so ago. I remember when there was a fence up and a construction site was set up, with a sign saying, “actors needed!” To think I didn’t know why they were doing that!!
Club Penguin’s future
This may seem like a ridiculous thing, as I don’t know Club Penguin’s future and what new things will be added. But, what I do know is that Club Penguin will hopefully be improved and changed to make it more fun, safe and a better place for penguins like us to go on! I’ve heard rumours of ninjas, hopes of new features and guesses of new additions, but whatever happens, I hope Club Penguin will always be great!
So there’s Club Pengun’s history for you. I hope that you enjoyed it, learnt alot, and now understand Club Penguin a bit more!!!

i miss old cp its WAAAAAYYYYY BETTER THAN NEW CP now disney owns cp and disney made everything BAD!!!! NOW THEY MADE NINJAS AND A STUPID STAGE!!! AND WHO MADE WIGS? SERIOUSLY PENGUINS DDONT HAVE HAIR!!!!

I was around when the Lighthouse wasn’t open or there was no such thing as the Cove or the Forest and there was also no such thing as a RED YELLOW OR WHITE PUFFLE but then i forgot the password to that account and during the 2007 water party i joined again
